Students Compete in Local Chemistry Olympiad

The local section recently held the local test for the US National Chemistry Olympiad. This annual event allows students to show off their chemistry knowledge and skills by competing in two separate rounds of testing. The local section events are run by Dr Chris Kolp and are held at Ursuline College. This year we had twelve students participate in the first-round examination from three different high schools: Mentor High, Mentor Christian, and Kirtland High. The three highest scoring students were Vincent Eveland (Kirtland), Abby Horvath (Mentor), and Adrianna Freitas (Kirtland). These three students were then invited to take part in the second-round competition which also includes a lab practical.

Dr. Kolp acknowledged the students and their teachers is this year's annual award banquet. The local section would like to thank Chris for his tireless efforts to hold this annual event, the science teachers representing the high schools from the local section for their dedication to teaching and spreading these opportunities to their students, and finally the students themselves for taking time from their busy schedules to participate in this event.
