2025 U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad
The U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) is a multi-tiered competition designed to stimulate and promote achievement in high school chemistry. It is sponsored by the American Chemical Society. Each year, four students are chosen to represent the USA in the International Chemistry Olympiad, which is hosted in July in one of the participating countries. Details regarding the event can be found on the ACS USNCO website.

The Northeast Ohio Section of the ACS hosts local training and testing events for eligible high school students within Lake and Ashtabula counties. High school students who participate in the event and complete the local exam are eligible for prizes based upon their performance. Prizes awarded by the NEOACS are $500 for first place, $250 for second place, and $100 for third place. Additionally, all teachers that bring students to the competition will be entered into a raffle for a $50 gift card. All prizes will be awarded at NEO-ACS Spring Banquet for Chemists Celebrate Earth Week in April, actual date to be determined.
The local exam will be held on Saturday March 8th begining at 10:00 AM. It will be held in-person at Ursuline College, 1550 Lander Road, Pepper Pike Ohio. Additional details will be provided to the students once they have applied. All questions regarding National Chemistry Olympiad should be directed to the NEOACS USNCO coordinator, Christopher.Kolp@Ursuline.edu.

Students competing in the USNCO are eligible to be selected as members of the United States team for the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO). For the past forty years, the United States has sent a team of four students to compete with nations from around the world at the IChO. The students participate in examinations, get to know students from other countries and learn about the host country’s culture over several days. Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded to the best performers, and the IChO provides students the opportunity to interact with their peers from other countries. The 57th international event will be in the United Arab Emirates, July 5-14, 2024.
